The McLaren P1 – Prepare to fall in love

Last year McLaren launched the 12C Spider to widespread acclaim. The Telegraph even suggested it was THE best car in the World.

Now, McLaren are going one step further, with the soon to be released P1, a car said to be the successor of the iconic McLaren F1. The P1 has been developed to be the `best driver`s car on road and track`.

So, it`s not a case of building the fastest car, but the best performing car. A car that proves it`s worth in cornering and handling rather than all out speed.

The P1 features some unusual yet beautiful styling cues, McLaren state these are purely for aerodynamics – but they just add to the aesthetic appeal too! On looks alone, this is high on my wish-list.

It is said that the new model is likely to produce around 960bhp with the help of a Formula 1-style kinetic energy recovery system (KERS). The P1 will feature two front seats, not like the McLaren F1.

McLaren Automotive executive chairman Ron Dennis says: `The P1 will be the result of 50 years of racing and road car heritage. Twenty years ago, we raised the supercar performance bar with the McLaren F1 and our goal with P1 is to redefine it once again.`

McLaren will make at most 500 of the P1, to boost the car’s value with an expected £800,000 price tag. It is likely to be a sound investment for buyers. Bear in mind that just 108 F1s were made, originally costing £540,000 two decades ago; they now fetch up to £3.8 million at auction.
