St James Hotel Mayfair Review – The perfect London Luxury Hotel

Where to stay in London? When it comes to London luxury hotels, we are spoilt for choice. Recently, we stayed at the wonderful St James Hotel, tucked away from the busy streets of Mayfair and beyond.

The hotel offers the best of both worlds here – You are 30 seconds away from being in the centre of the capital and all it has to offer, or you can retreat to St James, located in a splendid cul-de-sac.

St James Hotel Mayfair Room

Being a 5 star hotel, we were expecting the very best, and we got it. Courteous and approachable doormen, efficient reception team and staff that are nearly falling over themselves to assist. You want to feel special? Stay at St James!

The interior is underplayed yet grand too. It’s nice to see a hotel focus on comfort rather than being too showy. The calming greys and cleverly lit communal areas soothe the madness of London out of you.

The room we stayed in was of the highest standard, clean, fresh and very a la mode. But at the forefront of all was comfort again. The hotel is there to serve you. In no way is it setting out to impress, it doesn’t need to.

The hotel is home to Michelin star restaurant Seven Park Place by William Drabble. We had a prior engagement for dinner so could not enjoy what looks to be a superb dining option. The menu looked very appealing and the restaurant offers an intimate experience, with just 9 tables available…. We will be back!

The area is full of blue plaques and if you have some time on your hands, take a wander down some of the side streets and find evidence of important historical figures – trust us, it’s a great way to pass some time in London.

The hotel is also famous for the historic St James’s Club, formed in 1857. Trawling through a list of past members is fascinating: Charles Dickens, Henry James, Sir Winston Churchill, Ian Fleming, Michael Caine, Dudley Moore, Michael Parkinson and Lord Attenborough to name but a few.

The history of the hotel and its immediate surrounding area coupled with the quality interior, cleanliness and guest experience make this a very special London luxury hotel – Recommended.
