MGallery Castle Hotel, Windsor – Reviewed

The Castle Hotel Windsor is in prime location to experience some of this historical city’s most famous sights. Only a stones throw away from Windsor Castle itself, this hotel provides a wonderful location for exploration, relaxation and utter indulgence. Stumble off the cobbled streets and into this Georgian hotel for a fantastic experience. Plus, the hotel is ideally situated to obtain the best view possible for the pomp and grandeur of the Changing of the Guard.

The Hotel is home to 108 stylish and elegant rooms, which channel and embody all of the hotel’s Georgian heritage. Our room was contemporary, yet with a real feeling of traditional style and warmth throughout. Beds are fitted with the most opulent Egyptian cotton and the bathrooms are full of luxury Lanvin toiletries and fluffy bathrobes. Each element has been thought out to provide the most sophisticated and relaxing experience possible.

EIGHTEEN Restaurant

This 1 AA award winning rosette restaurant sits at the heart of the hotel. It’s a wonderfully elegant and formal space at night, but a fresh and vibrant space in the morning. Our meal began with delectable Atlantic scallops with black pudding. Sweet and full of flavour, the scallops were the perfect match for the earthy scallops. This is a tried and tested recipe, but one that was executed well. From the start of the meal we were treated to fantastic, world class service with a smile. Each member of staff was attentive and yet gave the sincere impression that they really cared about our experience. It should be added that this wonderfully welcoming style of service was evident throughout the hotel, and was not just restrained to the restaurant.

Mains for me were a similar success with the seafood options, as I went for the roasted halibut with a red wine dressing and grilled mushrooms. Delicious from the first mouthful, the halibut sang with flavour and was a big highlight of our stay. My partner opted for a succulent 225 g Fillet steak with a green peppercorn sauce. Tender and juicy, this steak was a hit too. On the whole the food at Eighteen was hearty and packed full of flavour, but it was presented in a refined and classic style. Well worth the visit.
