Let Macallan Gold warm the cockles of your heart this Winter
With the cold and wet setting in, the time is fast approaching for wood and kindling to be stocked ready for the heat of a crackling fire, and what could be a better accompaniment than a warming glass of soothing liquor?
Nestled on the banks of the river Spey, The Macallan distillery overlooked by Easter Elchies House in Craigellachie is one of Scotland’s most distinguished. Established in 1824, they have gained a reputation for creating the ‘Rolls Royce’ of Whiskies, with a broad range of tipples of many ages and complexities. The new Macallan Gold from the 1824 series is an affordable yet luxurious gift for the discerning whiskey lover looking for a simple single malt, or the curious gentleman looking to try something new.
At 40% volume, the Gold is a single malt on the light side, matured in sherry oak casks with strong themes of lemon citrus and orange peel as well as boiled sweets, with light notes of vanilla, dark chocolate and light oak, with a medium sweet and slightly dry finish. While not the most complex of Macallan’s range, the Gold is a lovely tipple with a charismatic light amber colour, beautifully presented in a white and gold case, making it perfect for a Christmas treat.
Macallan’s Gold can be enjoyed in a variety of ways; the preferred experience for most is neat with a dash water for those who want to release the flavour or with a cube or two of ice for a refreshing sip. Given the nature of this particular Whiskey it can also make an excellent base for a cocktail for those who like to spice things up a bit.
If you’re looking for a well rounded whiskey at an affordable price, Macallan’s Gold is a great place to start, and is sure to out a smile on on the face of whoever you give it to.
