Goodbye mulled wine and so long egg nog, a golden martini is the fashionista`s aperitif of choice this season as I discovered at the launch of cool new London restaurant Tinello. The place packed with the capitals hottest and most sought after trendsetters, we mingled over trays of delicious antipasti, wolfed down a sumptuous Italian dinner and tucked into rich, boozy desserts.
Although spoilt by the lavish feast it was the cocktails that really stole the show. Each one was made using Martini gold, the latest edition from the drinks manufacturer and one made in collaboration with Dolce and Gabana. A striking new variation on the classic vermouth it uses a complicated blend of botanicals and has a bittersweet spicy kick, combined with its golden colour it makes for the ultimate festive cocktail ingredient. Try it with prosecco and impress guest with shimmering sparkling flutes of liquid gold. Keep it short and simple in a tumbler with a dash of vodka then flourish with a single red grape. Mix with orange and cassis then pour over ice and decorate with winter berries. The choice is yours!
We were making merry into the small hours and left with our show-stopping gift, a black lacquered box and shimmering Martini bottle. The perfect gift for those looking for something a little special this season!
