Trullo – Review
Trullo, set in the midst of the bustling Highbury and Islington area, is one best value, most luxurious and best tasting Italian inspired Sunday lunch experiences around. The food was gloriously simple, yet the flavours were deep, rich and stunning.
Every Sunday Trullo offers a set four course menu, offering the finest cuts of meat, handmade pasta and delicious deserts. This menu is available from 12.30pm until 3pm, every Sunday. The menu is always different and is composed of the latest seasonal produce. For such a low price – the food was of the upmost quality and it was a real pleasure to dine at Trullo. We were also in the presence of a well-known celeb, who I shan`t name, but if it`s good enough for them, then it`s good enough for me.
The atmosphere was buzzing and the décor was invitingly rustic, therefore, making for a really dynamic and exciting dining experience. It was lovely to see that the feeling of energy, which existed outside the restaurant, was transferred into the restaurant.
The four course sunday menu was perfectly balanced and moved from savoury, to light citrus flavours, rising to a deliciously sweet climax. In a sense, this was more a journey for the palate, and it was certainly a pleasurable one. But bear in mind that this menu changes every Sunday and you cannot alter and supplement any of the course, but then again, who would want to?
The menu kicked off with a traditional Italian mixed antipasti composed of treats such as Finocchiona and a rich Mozzarella di bufala. I was really impressed by the simplicity and clean cut tastes on display. This was then followed by a Fettuccine with Amalfi lemon, marjoram and pecorino – this freshly rolled pasta was beautifully light and the lemon added a refreshing citrus twist.
We then ordered a bottle of Sicilian Inzolia to go with the next dish and it stood up well to the robust flavours of the dish; in more detail it was charcoal-grilled Black Hampshire pork chop with Rosevale potatoes, marinated trevise, oregano and anchovy dressing. The anchovy dressing was absolutely stunning and added another dimension to the pork – I could eat it again, and again, and again.
We then finished off with an indulgent vanilla pannacotta with poached rhubarb – beautiful. You can also add to your feast with a choice of cheeses, available for an additional £9.
A la Carte menu throughout the rest of the week with one of the menu`s highlights being Roast cod with cannellini beans, pallourde and razor clams, mussels, spicy tomato sauce and olive crosti (£17).
