The Highland Park 12 Year Old is certain to bring cheer this coming festive season
As the days become shorter and the winter chill sets in, what could possibly give more solace than a warming dram of lovely liquor?
The Northernmost distillery in Scotland, Highland Park at Kirkwall is well known for it’s vast array of fine whiskies. Nestled on the picturesque island of Orkney, this fine old whisky house was established in 1798, and since then has become synonymous with quality and tradition, producing barrel after barrel of refined joy.
Highland Park’s 12 year old was first introduced in 1979 and now flies the flag as part of their core range of products. The single malt whisky has a beautifully rich amber colour, with a nose of heather-honey sweetness and peaty smoke. The 12 year old soothes the palate with more smoky sweetness and finishes with heathery notes and subtle smoke to round off a thoroughly warming experience.
This is also a spirit which can be enjoyed may ways; neat, with ice or perhaps a dash of water to soften the smoky punch. One wonderful cocktail which compliments Highland Park is their Orcadian Sour which consists of:
- 2 shots of the whisky itself,
- 1 shot of freshly squeezed lemon juice,
- half a shot sugar (gomme) syrup,
- a couple of dash(es) of Bitters (optional),
- and half an egg white (optional).
The Highland Park 12 Year Old can be found at leading supermarkets and specialist shops and is priced at around £33.00, making it and affordable luxury going into the festive season, and it is sure to be stocking filler for many a happy whisky lover this Christmas.
