Match stick head sculptures that you can own

The Opera Gallery in London continues to push the boundaries, this time with Turner prize nominated artist David Mach and his rather awesome `Match-heads`.

These incredibly clever match stick head sculptures are the result of using thousands of tiny colourful unstruck matches strategically placed to assemble the contours and colours of the face.

The iconic sculptures can be designed to accurately portray famous faces, self – portraits or recreate legendary pieces of artworks, as you can see below.

Now David Mach is offering the public the opportunity to commission their own personalised sculpture made solely out of matchsticks (for the price of £49,000) as a luxurious and extravagant gift.

`I believe that an artist must be an ideasmonger responding to all kinds of physical location, social and political environments, to materials, to processes, to timescales and budgets.` David Mach

Each meticulously designed sculpture takes is handmade by the artist himself who is involved in every aspect from the initial design brief to completion of the project.
