Cotswold House Hotel & Spa Review:
A Stylish Mini Break in the Heart of Quintessential Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire.
For our recent girls’ mini break, Cotswold House Hotel & Spa was the absolute perfect choice. It’s a beautiful boutique haven for those seeking elegance, escapism and a touch of much-deserved indulgence. For us, it ticked every box from soothing spa moments and a refined ambience to a sublime dinner at the acclaimed Hidcote Restaurant. We loved that this hotel was steeped in history, exuding gorgeous character and nestled in the heart of one of the Cotswolds’ most picturesque towns. What was to come, was an unforgettable experience!

A Historic Retreat in a Quintessential Market Town
Located on the High Street in Chipping Campden, Cotswold House occupies an 18th-century Grade II listed Regency town house, echoing centuries of charm with its honey-stone façade and beautiful landscaped gardens. The town itself, once a prosperous centre for the wool trade, still carries whispers of its wealthy past. We found a wonderful antique and craft market in the medieval Market Hall, which was built in 1627, we marvelled at the elegant, terraced houses and enjoyed browsing the independent boutiques, artisan food shops, and cosy tearooms. It was a gorgeous way to spend the afternoon dipping into stores selling cashmere, handmade ceramics, and vintage finds, before checking in and relaxing with a drink in the hotel’s tranquil garden.
Our Junior Suite: Timeless Comfort with a Touch of Luxury
Our Junior Suite was a lovely surprise tucked away on the ground floor, complete with its own private entrance – an elegant invitation to step into a world of English country charm with a touch of luxury. The space felt wonderfully generous and impeccably styled, seamlessly blending period character with modern indulgence.
The ensuite bathroom was a true sanctuary. It was vast in size and thoughtfully designed, with a large walk-in shower, plush robes, and divine-smelling toiletries. The pièce de resistance was a huge freestanding oval stone bath perfect for a long indulgent soak after a day spent exploring Chipping Campden’s charming boutiques.
Inside, a plush oval sofa beckoned from the lounge area, which was so inviting, it was impossible not to sink into it. My favourite detail was the large sash window framing views of the tranquil gardens, with a little private patio just for us. And while the king-sized bed had been thoughtfully transformed into twins to suit our stay, it lost none of its cloud-like comfort. Every detail felt designed to pamper and we felt very spoilt indeed.
It’s Spa Time: Peaceful, Picture-perfect and Purposeful Pampering
Tucked away in converted old stables at the back of the car park, the Spa is a gorgeous, serene space that instantly calms you as soon as you arrive. We booked a rejuvenating spa session so that we could relax and experience the hydrotherapy pool and steam room as well as spend time relaxing on the loungers. We felt incredibly lucky to have the spa to ourselves and enjoyed every aspect a few times over.

We each enjoyed a 30-minute back, neck and shoulder massage, it was sublime and tailored to focus on problem areas as well as ease shoulder tension. Afterwards, we savoured the quiet, relaxed by the hydrotherapy pool and completed our spa experience with a refreshing herbal tea. Total bliss!
Dining at Hidcote: A Culinary Celebration
After indulging in our blissful spa session and resisting the temptation to fall asleep, we wandered out to the garden for a leisurely natter over a chilled glass of prosecco. The gardens are so peaceful and tranquil – it was the perfect pre-dinner ritual where we could soak up the golden evening sunshine and savour a moment of calm before the culinary delights ahead at Hidcote Brasserie and Grill.

Hidcote is Cotswold House Hotel’s intimate fine-dining restaurant, and its ambience welcomed us with warmth and delightful smells. Everything felt refined, and we guarantee the service staff will make your dining experience one to remember. Their hospitality was exceptional and made us feel special.
The menu features an array of curated mouthwatering dishes making it incredibly hard to choose from. Expect international flavours, classic British fare and locally
sourced dry-aged steaks and is sure to offer dishes to suit any palate, mood and occasion.
For starters, we can highly recommend the Cornish crab tartlet and gin cured salmon with citrus salad. Both were exquisite! Each dish looked delightfully decorated yet vibrant, and the fresh yet subtle flavours balanced perfectly suiting our mood on the night.
We then opted for two seafood courses yet again for our mains. The pan-fried stone bass, and Cornish lemon sole took our fancy but took on two completely different personas. The Cornish lemon sole was served more traditionally with buttered potatoes, tenderstem broccoli and caper beurré noisette. This contrasted with my stone bass dish, which came with gnocchi, sea herbs, buttermilk and caviar sauce, it was flavoursome, rich and beautifully cooked. We savoured each mouthful yet couldn’t wait to see the dessert menu. The Los Romeros Sauvignon Blanc white wine from Chile provided fragrant aromas of lemon and gooseberries with a zesty finish, which we found was the perfect choice for our selected dishes.

Our strategic choices of lighter seafood starters and mains left room for an avocado and lime cheesecake and chocolate fondant, which were incredible.
Overall, we loved the seasonal focus, elegant presentation and impeccable service at Hidcote, and to sum it up, our dining experience was refined without being fussy.
Breakfast & The Little Luxuries
Thinking we might not be hungry for even more food, the morning brought more delights, which we couldn’t resist! We entered the dining room and found a sunny spot in the window overlooking the High Street, it was a wonderful place to people watch. Our leisurely breakfast comprised of both continental and cooked options where we sampled soft buttery pastries, fresh fruit salad and berry compote, and fruit juices. From the cooked menu we chose the eggs Florentine and full English cooked breakfast – all served with a welcome pot of tea and coffee.
A few bonuses this hotel also offers is free on-site parking found at the back of the hotel and three EV chargers, which are easy to use on a PAYG basis, making it both accessible and future conscious.
