The Culloden Estate hotel in Belfast is certainly visually impressive. The spectacular gardens, beautifully mown lawns, and wonderful statues lead up to the very imposing entrance where we were greeted by very friendly and smiling staff. This is a great introduction to this historic building.

As we had arrived late morning (and not PM) our room was not ready, it was not a problem, and we just strolled to the pub for lunch! The Cultra Inn happens to be in the grounds, we had the famous Kilkeel scampi and chips served on a slate, the scampi in a small deep fat fry basket and the chips wrapped in newspaper! It was a lovely meal and very originally presented.

Later, when we were shown to our suite, it was truly breathtaking, one window overlooked the gardens and the other had far reaching views across Belfast Lough. There was a sitting room which was furnished with a dining table and chairs, 2 settees, a coffee table and a large television. There were tea and coffee making facilities. In the bedroom, was a very large comfortable bed, dressing table and substantial wardrobes, the en-suite was huge with lovely soft and snugly towels and bathrobes.

We had arranged for dinner that evening, so we went to the bar beforehand, it was very comfortable and very atmospheric. We perused the menus whilst quenching our thirst with a gin and tonic! When we were shown to our table we were seated alongside the huge windows with the wonderful views across the Lough.

The food was fabulous, my partner had steak and I had lamb, local vegetables accompanied the meal. After a good nights sleep, it was time again to sample the food, the locally sourced ingredients made a great breakfast, especially the black and white pudding.

We did not have time to try out the Spa, but it looked fantastic so we will be returning! Over all, it was an amazing visit to Culloden.
