Babbo Restaurant, London – Review

Situated in the heart of Mayfair you can find a very original taste of Italy at the Babbo Restaurant. Everything about the restaurant leaves you of a true taste of Italy, from the incredibly attentive staff to the Italian marble decor to some of the finest original Italian cuisine you`ll find in London (that we`ve experienced anyway!).

We arrived to a very warm, friendly welcome and a positively buzzing atmosphere. We could just tell from the outset that this was going to be an authentic experience.

We started our culinary journey with the sea scallop medallions with potato and leeks cream as well as the beef Carpaccio. Oh… we certainly chose well! The Carpaccio was covered in parmesan cheese and adorned with mustard sauce – simply divine. Both were recommendations from our incredibly helpful waiter.

We then moved on to the fish of the day for mains… The Turbot which was served with olives and Italian tomatoes (adding a gorgeous richness) and a selection of veg. We also tried the meatballs. Well… you can`t go to a famed Italian restaurant and not try the meatballs can you!!! We couldn`t fault either dish. This is uncomplicated Italian cuisine at its best – allowing the variety of fresh flavours to complement each other nicely.

Although we were quite full by this stage we couldn`t leave without trying another recommendation from our waiter in the shape of Italian cheeses and a créme caramel. Unusually the cheese arrived without biscuits… but an unusual honey and marmalade type dip, which was divine – I`ll never eat another water biscuit with my cheese again!

Overall a fantastic evening helped by a great atmosphere, passionate friendly staff, great ambience and very tasty Italian cuisine. Prices were reasonable at around £60 per head (without wine)

Thanks Babbo… we`ll be seeing you again!
