Perrier-Jouët’s latest artistic offering is not to be missed
Since it first opened its doors in 1811, Perrier-Jouët has become synonymous with sophistication and artistry. The House of Champagne has a rich history of producing delicate and enchanting vintages, presented in resplendent bottles adorned with their now trademark Japanese anemones and vibrant floral patterns.
This year as part of Design Miami the House will be unveiling two unprecedented works with renowned artist Ritsue Mishima; the first is a large installation which promises to be an immersive experience, playing on the concept of light and shadow as the protagonists. The second will be a large glass bowl dedicated to the ritual of serving champagne. This new partnership will run until the end of 2016, with a beautiful gift set becoming available over the course of the year.
This is not the first time that Perrier-Jouët has collaborated with an artist; throughout their illustrious history they have relentlessly raised the bar when it comes to aesthetics. A product with such finesse should be presented as such. In 1902 they set a precedent by working with Emile Gallé, one of the instigators of the Art Nouveau movements in France, having him design the bottles for a select number of magnums. While lost for a number of years, 1969 saw the House’s Cellar Master, Michel Budin, adopt the pattern once more for their now world famous cuvée Belle Epoque. Since then the house has regularly commissioned artists to create special designs for their bottles.
Ritsue Mishima herself has carved a reputation as one of the world’s most influential glass artists. Hailing from the ancient Japanese city of Kyoto, Mishima started her career in advertising as a stylist before moving to Venice in 1989. Since 1996 she has been collaborating with a master glass blower on the Venetian island of Murano, creating pieces which explore the themes of natural forms and reflections. Today her work is exhibited all over the world, making the partnership the Perrier-Jouët a perfect fit – two leaders in their respective fields working together to create something of real beauty. A mouth-watering prospect.
