The rare and expensive Havana Club 1519 sells at auction

An incredibly rare bottle of Havana Club 1519 sold for a record-breaking £5,200 at an online charity auction. Rum fans were eager to bid on the luxury Cuban rum which was one of just 500 bottles released to mark the 500th anniversary of the city of Havana.

The exclusive spirit was created by Havana Club’s Cuban Rum Master Juan Carlos González, which he began preparing for the city’s milestone anniversary as early as 1999 by selecting and blending barrels of rum from their maturing stock. Over the next 20 years, the  Havana Club maestros repeated this process every five years, re-blending the rums and filling back into the cask for further maturation to create the sublime Havana Club 1519.  The auction was hosted by online spirits auctioneers Whisky.Auction with proceeds going towards thousands of people in the restaurant and hospitality sector continuing to face financial hardship and striving to make up for loss of income as lockdown begins to ease.
