Tanqueray Celebrates Creator’s Birthday With Pop Up Gin Palace

A true `renaissance of gin` has hit the UK, with sales growing at 12% in pubs, bars and restaurants during 2012.[i] As people rediscover a passion for the juniper-based spirit, the Tanqueray Gin Palace opens its doors, offering the chance to enjoy unique cocktails specially created by the world`s leading bartenders.

The Gin Palace opens in time to celebrate the birthday of Charles Tanqueray, who created his world-famous gin in London in the 1800s.

With gin firmly back in vogue, the Tanqueray Gin Palace will open to the public on 27th and 28th March. Offering a new way for people to enjoy the popular spirit, the brand is reimagining the 19th Century gin palace, giving it a modern twist and bringing its original splendour to a new generation.

Situated on Covent Garden’s Floral Street in a shop setting, celebrated actor Idris Elba will host a range of special guests to open the new venue – reminiscent of the old Bloomsbury gin shops frequented by the creative community of their day including Charles Dickens and artist George Cruikshank.

Gin aficionados can ease into the Easter break by listening to live acoustic music, whilst enjoying a range of innovative cocktails specially created by four world leading bartenders including:
• Erik Lorincz, Head Bartender, The Savoy, London (Also worked as a consultant on James Bond film Skyfall)
• Tristan Stephenson, Co-Owner, Purl, Worship Street Whistling Shop, London
• Diego Cabrera, Head Bartender, Le Cabrera, Madrid

At the event, gin lovers will also be given the unique opportunity to experience gin tasting sessions led by Tom Nichol, the Tanqueray Master Distiller.
