Rydges, Kensington – Review

This summer, thanks to the capital`s games and the hot sun, you will definitely be looking for a swanky and stylish London hotel in which to stay. Well, if that`s the case, then you would do a great job to pick Rydges in South Kensington. Lussorian visited this week and we were really impressed. In short, we found this particular boutique hotel to offer everything we expect from a top class establishment and it was a very enjoyable stay.

Just a few hundred metres from Gloucester Road station lies this newly re-furbished boutique hotel. You can find Rydges on one of Kensington`s bright, open and tree lined avenues – you can feel the luxury before you even step in. Once you open the door to the lobby there are smiley staff and ice cold refreshments on hand, and it has to be said that these refreshments really came in handy with the 30 degree heat. Although our room wasn`t ready on arrival, mainly because we were so early, the staff did everything they could to speed up the process and called us when our room was ready. It is customer service elements like this which really make your weekend a lot smoother and enjoyable.

The executive rooms come with a bundle of exciting gadgety goodness; you can find an espresso machine, a Bluetooth enabled media hub, a complimentary set of the latest magazines, fluffy robes and even a complimentary drink at the hotel`s Polo Bar. Internet and WIFI is also available, but at an extra charge. I should also add that the executive king sized bed is extremely comfortable and made for an absolutely perfect night`s sleep – it really was the perfect antidote to a busy City evening. One thing we really did appreciate about the hotel is their tendency to leave witty and amusing comments throughout the rooms and on certain pieces of equipment. These comments really added quite a personal touch, which was greatly appreciated. The bathroom was immaculate and featured one of my favourite things – a rainfall shower – maybe I am too easily pleased!

After check in we went along to the compact Polo Bar and enjoyed one of the hotel`s complimentary glasses of prosecco. The bar also serves a large-ish selection of tipples, ranging from top whiskies to draught lager. This was a lovely place to start our evening and we really enjoyed the service we experienced.

In the morning, we went down for breakfast at the hotel`s restaurant, the Jam Cupboard. We really enjoyed the stunning array of pastries, fresh juice, fresh fruit and much more. Being a greedy so and so, I plumped for the gorgeously sweet American pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. Although terrible for my diet, this breakfast was hearty and left a real smile on my face. That`s not all – you can also order scrambled egg and salmon, full English breakfasts and a lot more for your brekkie.
