Murrayshall Country Estate Review

The perfect blend of luxury, family fun, and seriously incredible food

You know those places that just feel right the moment you arrive? That’s exactly what happened when we discovered Murrayshall Country Estate & Golf Club near Perth. We went for a two-night family break with our teenage girls and honestly, we’re already planning our return trip!

The Most Beautiful Drive Ever

Coming from Devon, we thought we knew a thing or two about stunning countryside, but the drive to Murrayshall absolutely blew us away. Picture this: winding country roads, sheep dotting the fields like little clouds, and scenery that looks like it’s straight out of a fairy tale. When we finally pulled into the estate, those sweeping views across 365 acres of woodland and parkland? Pure magic. It feels wonderfully tucked away while still being just minutes from Perth – the best of both worlds!

A Warm Welcome at Every Turn

The 17th-century manor house is absolutely gorgeous – all those beautiful stone walls and elegant windows that somehow manage to feel both grand and incredibly welcoming. From the second we walked through the doors, the staff made us feel like we were visiting old friends. They were so genuinely lovely and helpful without being over the top – you know that perfect balance where you feel looked after but not fussed over.

Our Home Away From Home

We stayed in the newly refurbished Lynedoch Suite, and wow, what a treat! Just 50 yards from the main house, it had its own separate lounge and dining area which was perfect for our family of four. The girls had a double sofa bed and an extra single bed in the lounge, while we enjoyed our own space – genius layout for families!

The bathroom was absolutely divine – a huge Jack and Jill style setup with loads of natural light, a gorgeous slipper tub, and a power shower that actually had proper pressure (you know how rare that is!). All the little touches were spot on too – from the Nespresso machine to the beautiful Scottish toiletries and daily water top-ups. It felt luxurious without being stuffy, if you know what I mean.

Food That’ll Ruin You for Everywhere Else

Oh my goodness, the food! Our first night at Eòlas restaurant was absolutely incredible. This place was awarded ‘Best Boutique Hotel Restaurant’ in the UK and has been shortlisted for ‘Scotland’s Best Restaurant’ – and honestly, we can see why. The panoramic windows overlooking the grounds create the most romantic atmosphere, and the food? My husband said it was genuinely one of the best steaks he’s ever had. The wood pigeon wellington and scallops we started with were divine, and every dish showcased the most beautiful Scottish produce.

The second night we tried Cairns restaurant, which has a completely different vibe – more relaxed and buzzy, perfect for families. The girls absolutely loved it, and we appreciated having such variety. From curries to fish and chips, there was something for everyone, and the cozy, informal atmosphere was exactly what we needed after a day of activities.

Pure Bliss at the Spa

We couldn’t resist sneaking away for some pampering (mum and dad need treats too, right?). I had a hot stone massage and reflexology at the spa in the Gate Lodge, and honestly, I could have stayed there all day. The seaweed-based products felt amazing, and I may have had a little nap on the treatment table – that’s how relaxed I was!

Family Fun That Actually Works for Teenagers

Getting teenagers excited about family activities can be… challenging. But the archery session we booked turned out to be one of our trip highlights! The instructor was brilliant with all of us (and very patient with the adults who shall remain nameless), and there’s something so satisfying about hitting that bullseye. Good old-fashioned fun that actually got everyone laughing together.

The Perfect Base for Exploring

One of the best things about Murrayshall is the location. We took a gorgeous drive to St. Andrews on our second day – the route is stunning, especially in the sunshine, and the town itself is absolutely charming. Edinburgh’s only about an hour away too, so if you want to combine city exploring with countryside relaxation, this is your spot.

Service That Makes All the Difference

Here’s what really set Murrayshall apart – every single person we met was genuinely lovely. From reception to the restaurants, spa to activities, everyone seemed to actually care about making our stay special. That kind of consistency is so rare, and it made us feel truly welcome rather than just like another booking.

The Perfect Balance

What we loved most about Murrayshall is how it manages to be elegant without being stuffy, sophisticated without being snooty, and family-friendly without losing that grown-up luxury feel. Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway, want a base for exploring Scotland, or need some quality family time, this place really does tick all the boxes.

For us, it was exactly what we needed – a chance to unplug, enjoy incredible food, spend proper time together, and just breathe. We left feeling so much calmer, definitely spoiled, and already discussing when we can return.

If you’re thinking about a Scottish getaway, we honestly can’t recommend Murrayshall highly enough. Just make sure you save room for that incredible steak!
