Luxury Cameron House Hotel Loch Lomond Review
Cameron House Hotel is a grand country mansion located on the shores of Loch Lomond; it`s one of the most romantic places I have ever visited. It`s true luxury, understated elegance and warm ambience is something to be lived up to, the setting is just stunning, incredibly beautiful and wonderfully tranquil. It was the perfect place to take my husband for his birthday, as our entire stay was filled with complete relation, blissful pampering, delicious food and a lot of fun!

We flew up to Glasgow airport from London Gatwick, the flight was easy and took just over an hour. We decided to hire a Chevrolet Spark for the weekend; it was small and compact but perfectly formed for whizzing around the countryside from one place to the next. I can only compare it to the Fiat 500 I drove the day before and in terms of size it is very similar but I have to say the Chevrolet wins hand down for being more comfortable and easier to drive! I admit the Fiat 500 looks the part but the Chevrolet at just £6,945 even has four doors, which are cleverly concealed might I add. All in this entire car was a fantastic drive throughout the entire trip and I would actually consider having one as a little run around back home.

We arrived at Cameron House just in time to have some breakfast in The Boat House before our boat trip on the famous Loch Lomond. We received such a warm welcome and the kitchen were able to knock us up the most tastiest sausage bap along with a warm mug of hot chocolate before we set off. The boat was amazing, (I didn`t expect it to be so luxurious!) and John, our guide was so knowledgeable about the local history of the Loch and surrounding areas. This was by far the best way to see the Loch in its entirety and with a glass of champagne in hand it was a fantastic way to start the day. The boat trip took around 90 minutes and it was enough time to see everything including the white deer!

We made our way back to the hotel where we settled in the Whisky Bar and enjoyed yet another mug of hot chocolate to help us warm up, our room wasn`t ready just yet so we gazed at the views we had taken in on the boat trip before heading off to The Carrick Spa, just 10 minutes drive away from the hotel. Upon arrival we were seated in the Claret Jug restaurant where we had a fairly healthy light lunch, it overlooks the scenic golf course grounds and luxury lodges exclusive to The Carrick. After lunch we were directed to the Spa to enjoy our treatments. There are only two words that describe this spa and they are `world-class`. I had no idea it was going to be as big as it was or be as luxurious. Right from when you step foot inside the spa you are soothed straight away, the calming ambience really does help you to unwind in super quick time and forget about every little thought in your mind.

The Carrick Spa
What to experience first? The spa has some amazing facilities including 17 treatment rooms, vishi shower beds, a rasul mud chamber with steam room, VIP spa suite for couples including mineral bath, steam room and private balcony, a relaxation suite and a finishing suite with two heated beds, massage pedicure stations, nail bar, make-up station and hairdresser – the list goes on! You can also expect to experience an array of thermal experiences including an infrared sauna, sauna, caldarium, tepidarium, hydrotherapy pool, aromatherapy steam room, hammam steam room and the experience showers. The spa also has a 20 metre swimming pool, and jacuzzi, yet one of the highlights for me was the rooftop infinity pool, which looked out over absolutely stunning views. After enjoying a long swim in the pool I then had a facial booked with Julie who really did look after me. She was incredibly friendly and very knowledgeable about general skincare as well as the products. She tailored the facial and products to my individual skin type and prior to starting the treatment she advised on using Comfort Zone, a lighter range of products suitable for pregnant women. The treatment room was gorgeous and ever so warm (just how I like it!), it even had a heated bed, which soothed my back no end for the duration of my facial. Afterwards I felt amazing, my skin felt alive and it had such a luminous glow, something I haven`t had for ages! It was the most perfect way to spend an afternoon.

When we got back to the hotel we were able to check into our room, it was a short walk away from the main lobby but I liked the fact it felt private and secluded. We had been given an executive suite and the room was incredible. The sumptuous and deep furnishings and dark subtle tartan-like wallpaper extended the warm Scottish charm within our own space – it was very elegant. The suite had a large bathroom inclusive of wet room with under floor heating, which was superb and added to the luxurious finishing touches. There was a hugely comfortable king size bed, a small desk area and a lovely circular seating space with near on panoramic sash windows where we could enjoy the views further. The room had everything we could possibly want including the usual hair dryer, tea & coffee making facilities, an iron and ironing board, oversized fluffy dressing gowns and slippers, and even an automatic return golf putter!
The Cameron Grill
That night we opted to have dinner in The Cameron Grill, it`s the main restaurant in the hotel and the atmosphere was nice and lively. The hotel seems to be a favourite with young families so the restaurant had an energetic vibe. If you want to eat in more intimate surroundings then head for the Martin Wishart restaurant, as it provides an á la carte and tasting menu for real foodies. The Cameron Grill provides a hearty choice of uniquely cooked Scottish dishes. To start with we opted for the Loch Fyne hand dived scallops and Hebridean crab; I have to say I was extremely pleased with my choice of scallops, the combination of flavours were beautiful. If you come to Scotland you just can`t get away with not having fresh seafood and the finest of steak (and why would you?) so for our main courses we chose the 300g rib eye steak with pepper sauce and the peppered fillet of Cairnhill beef, both were divine and it was really hard to decide on the best tasting steak, it just comes down to personal preference. After our surf and turf feast we couldn`t possible have squeezed in a dessert so we left feeling satisfied with our evening meal. We even managed to catch the end of X Factor in the comfort of our room, what a heavenly day all round.
The next morning we woke just in time to have breakfast in The Boathouse and the brisk 5 minute walk down there was refreshing. The check out time on Sunday was 11am so it really doesn`t leave that much time to have a lazy lie in. We had a whisky tour booked at 1pm at Glengoyne so departing the hotel at this time suited us perfectly. I would so recommend going to Glengoyne, it`s only about 45 minutes away from the hotel and you will learn lots of history about how they make their famous whisky. The Tasting Tour, which lasts 1 hour 30 mins is also recommended as opposed to the 45 min Glengoyne Tour especially if you`re a whisky lover. You will get to taste the 10, 12, 17 and 21 year old single highland malt, and also get one-to-one time with your tour guide. Our tour guide was fantastic; she was energetic and incredibly enthusiastic as well as knowledgeable about the whisky. As well as providing hourly & bespoke tours and group visits, Glengoyne also provides a fabulous setting to host private dining and meeting events for groups of 12 – 40 guests, and as you can imagine it`s a favourite with golfers! This distillery is well worth a visit if you`re in the local area. Call 01360 550254 to book your tour.
