Silent Pool Rare Citrus Gin 43% ABV
Silent Pool Distillery was founded in 2014 and have soared to success with what has to be one of the finest gins known to man, the original ‘Silent Pool Gin’. But as we all know, every superhero needs a sidekick at some point.
Silent Pool Rare Citrus Gin enters the room!
To clarify that this isn’t a mere flavoured gin. Instead, the cornerstone of this gin’s character lies within four exceptionally rare fruits. But what precisely are these elusive citruses? Let’s embark on a journey of discovery.
Leading the ensemble is the Buddha’s hand, an enigmatic fruit whose appearance alone warrants a Google. It imparts flavours akin to pure sherbet, coupled with the effervescent zest of lemon, creating vibrant top notes. Remarkably, this fruit boasts an unusual character – its pith, traditionally bitter in most citruses, offers a delightful sweetness, a true departure from the norm. The spotlight then shifts to the Seville orange, known for introducing classic grassy and brilliantly bitter notes reminiscent of cherished marmalade.
Enter the Natsudaidai, a name perhaps unfamiliar to many, even ourselves. Described as a fusion between pomelo and mandarin yet graced with slightly sweeter echoes of grapefruit and orange, it’s a revelation in complexity. Finally, the Hirado Buntan takes the stage – a pomelo variant. With its echoes of a mellower grapefruit combined with honeyed nuances, it has been hailed as a paragon of citrus excellence, an impeccable balance of sweet and tangy.
Each citrus variety undergoes separate distillation before being artfully blended. The essence of the original gin remains, with Lavender remaining the solitary floral presence, joined by a triumvirate of distinctive peppers: Timur pepper (ironically a citrus variant), wild forest pepper (famed in perfumery), and the musky voatsiperifery pepper.
Upon tasting, the citrus infusion delights without overpowering. Juniper maintains its resolute presence, accompanied by the subtle embrace of peppery warmth. Throughout the experience, bitter orange and zesty grapefruit weave an intricate tapestry, uplifted by sherbet-like nuances and grounded by the woody, musky peppers.
This is delicious.

Otterbeck Cotton Gin 43% ABV
The “Flavours of Cotton Gin” presents a gorgeous fusion of fragrant botanicals, including Yorkshire Watercress, English coriander, and meticulously gathered spruce. This results in a gin that exudes both a captivating aroma and a herbaceous essence.
Now, the question arises: Why the name “Cotton” Gin? Situated within the confines of an ancient 18th-century cotton and silk mill, standing tall by the serene banks of the River Aire, this distillery holds historical significance as it once hummed with the production of superior yarn and silk. Driven by a petite steam engine and an elegant water wheel, the mill thrived. In a bid to pay homage to the splendid origins of this edifice, the visionaries at Otterbeck Distillery opted to christen their creation “Cotton Gin,” drawing inspiration from the very machines that defined its past. To amplify their reverence for this legacy, their remarkable handcrafted copper still, boasting a voluminous capacity of four hundred and fifty litres, has been affectionately named “Eliza” after the mill owner’s beloved wife.
This is a really exciting collaboration between acclaimed Chef Michael Wignall and Otterbeck Distillery, and I get a sense this isn’t the last we’ll see of these combined creative juices.
I absolutely love this gin, a new firm fave for me!

Hailing from the vibrant city of Edinburgh, Scotland, Ferg & Harris emerges as a fresh and independent bottler. Presenting their latest creation, the Speyside 12-year-old single malt Scotch whisky, a true source of delight for the senses.
On the nose, a generous infusion of PX sherry takes center stage, infusing the customary essence of raisins, figs, and dates, accompanied by notes of velvety chocolate and luscious sticky toffee. Subtle undertones of nuts and lacquered meat dance in the background. The overall impression is one of depth and darkness, albeit with a touch more caramel than my personal preference allows. Yet, atop this canvas, minty and herbal notes, along with a touch of burnt orange peel, gracefully elevate the experience.
As the liquid graces the palate, its robust nature takes hold, mirroring the aforementioned profile. Rich dark chocolate nuances intertwine with the indulgence of toffee dessert, all held together by an undercurrent of herbal woodiness. In the middle of the palate, a burst of fruity vibrancy emerges, teasing with whispers of blood orange and ripe blackberries. Soon, the journey revisits butter caramel confections and a touch of bittersweet chocolate. The pronounced influence of sherry imparts a liqueur-like quality, enriching the experience.
The finale is a symphony of enduring sensations. A remarkably lengthy finish unfolds, gradually drying and warming the palate. Echoes of chocolate and caramel persist, harmonizing with subtle traces of herbal tea, a gentle reminder of the intricate journey just undertaken.

The finish is long and satisfying, with a gentle warmth and a touch of brine, leaving a pleasant aftertaste of oak and fruit.
Overall, the Jura Single Malt 10-Year-Old is an excellent choice for those looking to explore the world of island whiskies. Its balance of sweetness, smokiness, and complexity makes it a versatile and enjoyable option for both newcomers and seasoned whisky enthusiasts.

Known for their adventurous spirit, Glen Moray has a wide core range of whiskies, and the Twisted Vine Cognac Cask marks the debut of a new collection from this Speyside distillery. However, details about the upcoming expressions or their release dates remain a well-guarded secret.

This innovative and pioneering approach to flavour experimentation has become a defining characteristic of Glen Moray’s whiskies, and it is with great excitement that they introduce this exceptional new expression.
