Bushmills Single Malt Collection for Father’s Day

Father’s Day is just a stone’s throw away (just saying ;-), when dads everywhere long for a wee dram of delicious single malt to open. Bushmills is the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery, located on the rugged Northeast coast of Northern Ireland, and these lovely folks have been creating their single malt, signature smooth taste for centuries (since 1608).

Irish whiskeys are in fact enjoying a huge period of growth, potentially surpassing sales of Scotch whiskies for the first time since Prohibition over the next 10 years (source: Drinks Ireland). In fact, Irish whiskey is not only the world’s fastest-growing spirit of the past decade, and global sales hit a record in 2021 by breaking the 13 million case barrier, and the number of distilleries in Ireland has grown from a mere 4 in 2010 to 40 in 2022.

But let’s get back to the single malt, triple distilled whiskeys on offer from Bushmills. There are three delicious expressions to note, which we’ve showcased below.

Bushmills 10 Year Old 40% ABV

Matured for a minimum of 10 years in bourbon-seasoned barrels, this whiskey is fresh and zesty with aromas of honey, vanilla and milk chocolate. Delicious served neat, over ice or mixed in a range of classic and creative cocktails.

Nose: Fresh and zesty, honey, ripe fruit, vanilla and milk chocolate

Taste: Soft vanilla, milk chocolate, toasted wood

Finish: Crisp, clean and gently drying

The Whisky Exchange – £40

Bushmills 16 Year Old 40% ABV

Aged in a combination of Oloroso Sherry and bourbon-seasoned barrels, before going through a final finishing period in Port wine casks, the unique maturation process creates a truly fantastic whiskey. With complex notes of juicy fruits, nuts, and spice, as well as a hint of ruby redness, the 16 Year Old Single Malt is best enjoyed neat or with a small ice cube to unpack its unique flavours.

Nose: Big, robust, treacle toffee and sweet spice

Taste: Concentrated, full bodied, caramelised fruits and toasted nuts

Finish: Deep, jammy berries, milk chocolate

The Whisky Exchange – £80

Bushmills 21 Year Old 40% ABV

This whiskey is a rare treat. Matured for 19 years in former Oloroso Sherry and bourbon-seasoned barrels, then married together for two years in Madeira casks, this whiskey has a huge depth of flavour. With tones of honey, ripe fruit and sweet hazelnut, this concoction tastes of decadently rich dark chocolate mixed vanilla and toasted wood. Savour this delicious whiskey neat.

Nose: Honey, ripe fruit and sweet hazelnuts

Taste: Rich, dark chocolate notes, vanilla and toasted wood

Finish: Long and delicate

The Whisky Exchange – £160

So, as you can see, there’s something here for every pocket and taste. Also, don’t forget to check out Bushmills equally as delicious, blended and specialist ranges!
