Alila Villas Uluwatu, Bali – Review
Upon arrival Alila Villas Uluwatu conjures up a complete sense of beautiful serenity, its understated chic and striking modern design makes for a fantastically unique and memorable experience. This luxury establishment can be found in the middle of nowhere at the very Southern tip of the island, so after making our way through the deep floods, windy roads and hectic traffic we were ready to re-discover the joy of pure relaxation.
After checking in we couldn`t help but notice the absolutely stunning picturesque view beyond the infinity pool of the gorgeous azure blue Indian Ocean. In the background there was a backdrop of cool soothing music performed by a beatboxing artist, which we didn`t expect but added to the unique ambience of the resort. Whilst our villa was being prepared we enjoyed a refreshing watermelon cocktail and spicy nibbles in the spectacular cliff top bar, which is poised on the elevated plateau – our first impression was utterly fantastic and one that we can guarantee you will never forget.
Our one bedroom private pool villa was situated a distance away from the hotel lobby so we were picked up by a golf buggy and delivered to our front door by our own butler. Inside had a contemporary feel with modern Balinese touches, and we loved the sense of openness allowing the gentle sea breeze to freely flow in and out. It included all the mod cons including a 32 inch Samsung LCD TV, DVD player, telephone and a complimentary WIFI connection, safety deposit box, Espresso coffee machine and luxury teas by TWG tea with tea making facilities and private mini-bar.
Our deluxe sized bathroom was equipped with an indoor and outdoor rain shower & jet shower, bathtub and luxurious Ploh linens; thick towels, yukata-style bathrobes, 300 thread-count bed linens and duvet. And, we even enjoyed further lovely touches like the exclusive Alila-designed leather luggage tags, which had been attached to our travel bags and quality `His and Her` Alila Living bathroom toiletries. The outside area was equally as stunning. We had our very own private pool, intimate seating and lounging area and a fabulous cabana that looked out toward the Indian Ocean made comfortable with varying size cushions.
We decided to relax in our pool villa for the entirety of the afternoon until we were ready to have our evening meal. We opted to dine at The Warung restaurant, renowned for presenting authentic wholesome Indonesian and Balinese cuisine. It provides a sophisticated space with an open kitchen and indoor and outdoor seating, perfect for socialising in larger groups as well as offering an intimate dining ambience for couples.
Overall, we loved the romantic atmosphere, which essentially enables diners to have a casual, laidback experience with the dramatic backdrop of the cliff and Indian Ocean. We chose to indulge in the restaurant`s signature dishes, which were presented on a platter, reflecting a `tasting` menu but with all the dishes presented at once. We lapped up the array of dishes and we found this way of dining perfect for tasting the very best of the Balinese flavours. Finally, again, the desserts were presented on one platter but after the amount of food consumed within the starter and main courses we fell short and are sad to report we failed to finish the sweet tasting delights.
After a satisfying night`s sleep we ordered breakfast in our villa and ordered around four of the tasting sensations ranging from an English breakfast, healthy option and an amazing chocolate alternative! Each tasting sensation combined little hot and cold treats served on small plates and dishes. What a culinary pleasure and the perfect end to an enchanting stay. We felt pampered all the way and would like to sum our experience up in three words – luxurious, understated and incredibly chic!
Alila Villas Uluwatu is a resort you simply can`t afford to skip if you`re planning a trip to Bali.
