Alexander House & Spa, East Grinstead – Review

Nestled in the heart of West Sussex (and not a million miles from Gatwick Airport) you`ll discover this hidden treasure of a hotel. Comparable to the likes of Chewton Glenn and Penny Hill Park, Alexander House Hotel & Spa is beautiful both inside and out. It has a full spa facility, opulence comes to mind with unique lighting, hydrotherapy pool, steam and saunas and treatment rooms.

We recently reviewed Alexander House and feel privileged to have done so as it now scores up there with our top 5 reviews of all time (and we`ve done a few!). Our room was called Copper Beeches and was decorated with Autumnal colours in mind. A huge comfortable bed with the finest Egyptian cotton sheets, a flat screen TV, condiments, sofa, views of the outdoor Jacuzzi and a bottle of Champagne to top it all off. The design aspect is contemporary and has clearly been heavily invested in.

We headed down to the spa and found an equally impressive set up, top of the range gym, pleasant staff and all the elements as mentioned previously. After an hour basking in the hydrotherapy pool we were invited for a massage, which was fantastic and highly recommended. We each had a 30 minute back and shoulder massage. A really nice touch at the end was that our masseurs provided us with a sheet of their personalised recommendation as to how to better unwind and distress. Practical tips, which I can honestly say I hadn`t thought of before. Thank you Tina!

Dinner was also a fantastic experience, after a stunning (but strong) Fig & Honey Martini cocktail n the Champagne lounge we headed into the impressive dining hall where we were treated to the customary Chef`s appetiser, followed by Foie Gras and Scallops for starters. So far, very good.

For mains we opted for Venison & Dover Sole. Whilst the venison was stunning, the true winner was the Dover Sole, which was absolutely divine!

We struggled to find room for dessert, but just about managed it (as ever), Chantelle opting for Chocolate torte and me, the cheeseboard. A cheese trolley was wheeled over to me from which I selected 6 fantastic cheeses and a glass of port to accompany it – how British is that! The Epoisses in particular was a favourite.

Overall… you could sum up Alexander House as an unforgettable experience that is going to take some beating. It`s by far no cheap jaunt, BUT you can guarantee that you get what you pay for on every level, value for money on a grand scale. The staff are a true asset to this fine establishment, we`d like to thank them all for making our stay such an enjoyable one.
